New World Harbour Race

First held in 1906, the Cross Harbour Race was suspended in 1979. It remained one of the most popular sporting events in Hong Kong for over 70 years, attracting hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators. The idea of swimming across the Victoria Harbour while enjoying a perfect blend of natural environment and cityscape was simply irresistible. In 2011, it was revived as the New World Harbour Race at the eastern part of Victoria Harbour, proving that the magic has not faded despite a prolonged hiatus of 33 years. Till 2017, the Harbour Race returns to the classic race route, swimming from Tsim Sha Tsui to Wan Chai after 40 years! It evoked memories of generations past and helped to promote swimming as a sport for all.
