Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races

Hong Kong is recognised as the birthplace of modern competitive dragon boat racing and is known internationally as a leading dragon boat competition destination. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (then the Hong Kong Tourist Association) organised the first international dragon boat races in 1976. The International Dragon Boat Federation was established in Hong Kong in 1991 as the worldwide governing body for the sport. The Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association was also established in the same year to represent the interests of Hong Kong in the Federation and to promote and develop dragon boat racing in Hong Kong.

Over the years, the annual CCB (Asia) Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races (IDBR) has become an important event in the sporting calendar. Besides a sport event, IDBR is successful in attracting hundreds of thousands of the general public and overseas visitors to appreciate the exciting sports and the authentic culture behind dragon boat races.

Over 4 800 athletes from all over the world, including Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Mainland China, Macao, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, United Kingdom, United States and Hong Kong, will be featured in the ultimate Dragon Boat showdown in Victoria Harbour. This year, teams from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau will join us at the Carnival to compete for the newly introduced "PRC 70th Anniversary CCB (Asia) Trophy".

In addition to the thunderous boom of beating drums and splashing waves in the Dragon Boat races, the three-day Carnival will feature fun-filled elements, with local delicacies, music and entertainment, guaranteeing a variety of great summer fun for visitors.
