Background of YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships
"Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships" is one of the Badminton World Federation World Grand Prix tournaments. Since 1982, Hong Kong Badminton Association has been hosting this Grand Prix tournament for 21 times. From 2004 to 2006, Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships upgraded to be a 6-star event with total prize money of US$250,000.00.
Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships became a superseries Event in 2007 and 2008. It attracted World ranking Top 10 players from 23 countries and districts to participate in; these including China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, England, Denmark and Netherlands, etc.
Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships has awarded "M" mark since 2005. It becomes a major sport event in Hong Kong. It also gives an opportunity for the public and tourists to enjoy a world-class tournament in Hong Kong, this may in turn help speeding up the prosperity of Hong Kong.
